Domains of Instructional Technology

The Association for Educational Communications and Technology provides a definition and the domains of instructional technology:

"Instructional technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning."

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Media Services defines educational technology with the same domains as instructional technology....

"Educational technology is the application of research, learning theory, emergent technologies, and child and adult psychology to solving instructional and performance problems. The Presidential Commission on Instructional Technology highlighted four areas in which educational technologists perform:

Appalachian State University, Instructional Technology Center includes in their mission statement many of the domains, and adds acquisition...

"Our mission is to support the Appalachian community in the acquisition, design, development, and utilization of technology in instruction, scholarship, and service."


San Diego State University Instructional Technology Services includes in their purpose distribution:

"Providing support to SDSU faculty in the design, selection, production and distribution of instructional media."
